My spring obsession: Pacific Breeze City Pop 1976-1986

Updated: Apr 18

The LP even has this beautiful customized art for it

I am obsessed.

In love.

Overwhelmed by the POWER of a well curated city pop LP, and Pacific Breeze 1 which collects bangers from 1976 - 1986 is it.

I'm glad I got it when I did because it's surprisingly difficult to order now, at least when I tried ordering it for my boyfriend recently.

My top three tracks on this vinyl are:

  • Masayoshi Tanaka - Bamboo Vendor

  • Hiroshi Satoh - Say Goodbye

  • Nanako Sato - Subterranean Futari Bocci

Here's the thing... I believe this record has the power to make people happy. It goes from bubbly disco to experimental sunshine to daisy picking percussion. This collection would have tipped the scales towards my city pop love regardless if I knew the genre or not, so that said - I think this makes a fine gift for someone else. The gift of happiness you could say! Or the gift of a very cheerful summer.
